Byline
Also: by-line
The line that names the journalist who wrote the story, usually sitting just under the headline.
"By Jane Smith" is a byline, and it is more than vanity. It is your masthead of credit, your accountability, and over time your reputation in print. A shared story gets a double byline; a story you only contributed to might get a tagline at the foot instead. Earn bylines and keep the clippings.
