Par

Reporters and subs talk in pars, not paragraphs. "Give me six pars on the fire", "cut the last two pars", "it runs to thirty pars": the par is how copy gets sized and trimmed. In news writing a par is short, often a sentence or two, so the page looks inviting and a sub can lift one out without breaking the sense. "Par graf", or just "graf", is the same idea, more common in American newsrooms.
