Intro
The first paragraph of a story. In British and Australian newsrooms, "intro" is the common word for what Americans call the lede.
Walk into an Australian newsroom and you will hear "the intro", not "the lede". Same job: the opening par that carries the news and sets the tone. Simon's rule was to write the intro last as often as not, once you actually know what the story is.
