Ghost writer
Also: ghostwriter
A writer who produces a book, article or speech that is published under someone else's name.
A ghost writer does the work and hands over the credit. Celebrity memoirs, executive opinion pieces and many a sportsperson's column are ghosted. It is honest work, as long as everyone who needs to know does and the arrangement is agreed in writing. The ghost gets paid rather than bylined, which suits plenty of freelancers very well.
