The article that gives the publication's own opinion on an issue, written without a byline and speaking for the masthead.
The editorial, or leader, is the one place a paper speaks in its own voice. It carries no byline, because it is the view of the publication rather than a single writer, and is usually written by a senior editorial hand. It comments on the events of the day and sometimes takes a stand. Readers turn to it to find out where the paper stands.
