A reporter's regular subject area or patch, such as police rounds, the courts round or the health round.
Working a round means owning a patch: the police round, the courts round, local government, health. You build the contacts, learn the language, and know when something is off because you have seen normal. Rounds are where reporters become specialists and where most real stories are dug up rather than handed out.
