Getting and using information

On the record

Information a source agrees you can publish and attribute to them by name. The default you should always aim for.

On the record means you can quote the person and name them. It is the gold standard, because a named source is one the reader can weigh. Always push for on the record first and only retreat to weaker terms if you have to. Agree the terms before the interview, not after, so there is no argument later.
